Dosage

New grazing pasture: If you want to increase palatability in your grazing pasture, we recommend sowing 40kg of Hippo-Green + 10kg of Timothy per hectare.
Hayfield: For a pure hayfield, you can choose 100% Timothy, or mix Timothy with Hippo-Green.
Overseeding: If you want to add extra palatability to an existing pasture, we recommend overseeding with 10-15 kg/hectare of Timothy.

Usage

Timothy grass can be sown from March to May or from August to mid-October. For overseeding, if possible, it is preferable to do it in the fall (September-October).

Seeding depth: up to 1.5cm deep.

Timothy grass (also known as Timotee or Meadow Cat's Tail) is highly favored by horses. It has a higher stem content compared to other grass species, which requires horses to chew more and promotes better digestion. It also contains lower sugar levels compared to many other grass species. Timothy grass is often sown for hayfields due to its high yield and palatability, but it can also serve as a perfect addition to grazing pastures to enhance their taste.

Furthermore, Timothy grass is highly winter-hardy. A pasture with a high content of Timothy grass will emerge stronger from the winter, allowing horses to be turned out earlier or the pasture to be mowed earlier in the season.

Tip

For newly seeded pastures, it is recommended to wait at least six months and have two mowing cycles before allowing horses to graze on them. Dragging the pasture in the spring helps promote a strong grass cover. Fertilizing according to our recommended fertilization plan and conducting periodic soil analysis will ensure a healthy horse pasture with a longer lifespan.
