Dosage

New seeding: 60kg per hectare
Overseeding or interseeding: 40kg per hectare

In combination with Herm Mix: 30kg Horse Star +10 kg Herb Mix per hectare

Usage

Sow from March to May or from August to mid-October (preference for autumn). Lightly incorporate the seeds to prevent drying out (maximum depth of 2cm for the seeds). If sowing superficially, rolling is strongly recommended. Surface overseeding without any preparation is only possible under very moist conditions for a period of 2 weeks.

More about Horse Star grass seed mixture

The pasture is your horse's favorite place. Here, it can peacefully consume fresh grass or expend energy by trotting around.

Your horse has the following requirements for its pasture:

  • Endure intensive trampling throughout the year
  • The turf must be very dense to prevent the pulling out of the sod
  • Fast grass recovery
  • Palatable but not too energy-rich grass
  • Low levels of fructan (reserve carbohydrate) and protein
  • Preference for grass with a rich structure

Horse Star is specifically formulated to meet all these requirements. Horse Star is also highly suitable for overseeding in combination with our Herb Mix.

Composition

  • 50% Perennial ryegrass is a highly palatable and productive grass that promotes fast re-growth of the turf after grazing or damage. To achieve an even distribution of grass growth throughout the entire season, intermediate and late types are used. Horse Star exclusively contains narrow-leaved (diploid) varieties of perennial ryegrass because they are more persistent and have lower sugar content compared to broad-leaved (tetraploid) varieties.
  • 20% Creeping red fescue is a grass that forms underground runners and has a very low growing point close to the ground, making it well-tolerated for close grazing. Horse Star has a very high percentage of 30% creeping red fescue, which makes it unique. This contributes to a highly dense turf that can withstand frequent trampling. Open patches are quickly filled in by the runners of creeping red fescue. Creeping red fescue is highly drought-resistant and winter-hardy.
  • 20% Timothy or Meadow Cat's-tail has the highest cold resistance and ensures early grass regrowth in the spring after a severe winter. Timothy also has a low fructan content and high structural value.
  • 10% Chewings Fescue with robust runners has a low protein and fructan content, but a very high fiber content. It ensures an adequate structural component in the turf throughout the season. Chewings fescue tolerates close grazing and drought very well.
