More about Horse Star Extra grass seed mixture

The pasture is your horse's favorite place. Here, it can peacefully graze on fresh grass, expend energy, and trot around.

Your horse has the following requirements for its pasture:

  • Endure intensive trampling throughout the year
  • The sod must be very dense to prevent sod pulling
  • Grass should recover quickly
  • Palatable but not too energy-rich
  • Very low levels of fructan (reserve carbohydrate) and protein
  • Structure-rich grass is preferred
  • Diverse and varied composition for a stronger immunity

Horse Star Extra is specifically formulated to meet all these requirements. It is also highly suitable for seeding in conjunction with our Herb Mix.

Composition

  • 10% perennial ryegrass is a highly palatable and productive grass that ensures rapid sod regrowth after grazing or damage. To achieve an even distribution of grass growth throughout the season, intermediate and late types are used in Horse Star. Only narrow-leaved (diploid) varieties are included in Horse Star because they are more persistent and contain fewer sugars than broad-leaved (tetraploid) varieties.
  • 15% Kentucky bluegrass is a grass that forms underground runners and has a very low growth point close to the ground, making it well-suited for short grazing. Horse Star contains a very high percentage of Kentucky Bluegrass (30%), making it unique. This contributes to a very strong and dense sod that withstands frequent trampling well. Gaps are filled in by the runners of Kentucky Bluegrass. Kentucky Bluegrass is highly drought-resistant and winter-hardy.
  • 30% Timothy also known as lamb's tail, it has the highest cold resistance and ensures early regrowth of the grass after a severe winter. Timothy Grass also has low fructan content and high structural value.
  • 10% Chewing fescue with robust runners, it has low protein and fructan content, high fiber content, and provides sufficient structure in the sod throughout the season. Chewings Fescue tolerates short grazing and drought well.
  • 10% Creeping red fescue grows well on dry and wet grounds and ensures rapid sod sealing.
  • 10% Meadow foxtail exhibits strong drought tolerance and winter hardiness.
  • 15% Smooth meadow grass known for its high palatability
