Dosage

Pasture maintenance: 1000 liters of worm castings per 1000 m² pasture.

Pasture establishment: 3000L of worm castings per 1000 m² .

Usage

The most suitable time to distribute worm castings on your horse pasture is during moist weather before winter. Thanks to annual compost fertilization, grass production will increase.

You can apply worm castings to your horse pasture using a manure spreader or compost spreader. Alternatively, you can also scatter small piles of worm castings across the pasture and spread them out regularly using a pasture drag. For smaller pastures, you can use the traditional method with a wheelbarrow, shovel, and rake.

For new seeding, we recommend distributing worm castings on the soil, mixing them in, and then seeding.

More About Worm Castings

Worm castings, also known as worm humus or worm compost, are a natural organic fertilizer produced by worms. The significant difference compared to green compost is that the worms have already converted the green compost into a highly nutritious fertilizer. This ensures that your grass can absorb minerals and nutrients more quickly and efficiently.

The presence of beneficial fungi also promotes Mycorrhiza. This is a symbiotic relationship (1+1 = 3) between fungi and grass roots. Besides improving soil structure, plants can much more effectively absorb and retain nutrients and water. This makes your horse pasture more resilient against prolonged periods of drought or wetness.

Below, you'll find all the benefits of worm castings summarized:

  • Worm castings are a highly nutritious compost.
  • Worm castings do not produce foul odors.
  • Worm castings can be easily distributed.
  • Worm castings contain readily absorbable minerals and trace elements.
  • Worm castings contain beneficial bacteria and fungi.
  • Worm castings promote rapid germination of grass seeds.
  • Worm castings enhance the resistance of your grass against diseases.

Tip

You can effectively combine worm castings with lava grit. This enriches your soil with minerals and trace elements that are often lacking in the soil due to their absence in common fertilizers.
